Is there anything better than good home-style fired chicken? It is the food of the south and enjoyed by the masses too. That’s why we feature fried chicken every Thursday, all day long!
With this in mind we decided to put together a short blog on the history of fried chicken as we know it. Here are some interesting, some might say ‘amazing’ facts about fried chicken.
Invented in Scotland
Sorry Kentuckians. The practice of deep frying chicken in animal fat was first done in Scotland. Immigrants brought this tasty way to cook chicken with them when they came to the USA.
Special Occasions Only
Before WW2, serving fried chicken was only done on special occasions like holidays. This is because spring chickens were not as plentiful and the process of preparing the chicken and deep frying it was much more labor intensive back then.
Popular Around the World
Many think of American style fired chicken as the only way to fry a chicken. But, if you have been abroad you know that it is done many different ways. They love it in Japan & Korea. In the latter they double fry their chicken. Its something to try! In Thailand they serve it with a powerful sauce and sided with sticky rice. It is delicious but resembles American style fried chicken in no way whatsoever.
Don’t forget to come by Charlie & Jake’s beachside to get out delicious fried chicken. You can call ahead or order online if you want to pick it up and eat it at home.
