Floridians can Grill or BBQ any time of the year

by contributing writer Stephanie C.

Beautiful marine landscape with tree on a pristine beachHere in the northeast, we are going to the grocery store to buy the obligatory bread, eggs and milk to prepare for a “blizzard” that is coming tomorrow evening. I’m not sure what those ingredients have to do with snow, but it seems mandatory to pick them up. Perhaps French toast makes snow storms tolerable. We are expecting a massive snow amount and powerful winds that will knock down power lines. It would seem without power our BBQ grills are the only way to make this French toast; if there was a path dug out for them.

Now, you lucky people in Florida have the ability to grill anytime of the year. In the winter, you might have to don a sweater to grill outside on your coldest days; I’ve heard 60 degrees is considered cold. In Florida there is only the rare occasion when frost makes an appearance, but it still doesn’t stop the BBQ grilling aficionados out there. I would think that Spring and Fall would be the best time to grill BBQ in Florida. The temperatures are warm and people are enjoying the outdoors. What better time to invite friends and family over for a BBQ.

Where we in the northeast have an advantage is in the summer. I’ve been to Florida in the summer; it’s sweltering, at least to me. I can’t imagine too many people wanting to be outside for long periods of time unless they are at the beach. Standing at a hot grill, slathering BBQ sauce on those chicken breasts while the heat of the grill is melting you, doesn’t seem very inviting. Northeast summers can be humid, but rarely sweltering for long.

It really doesn’t matter what area of the country you live in, BBQ is a national past time. Who doesn’t love being invited to a BBQ? There are even competitions over who has the best BBQ. These competitors are usually men. Men claim to be the king of the BBQ grill. Being a woman, I think it’s kind of nice to not have to cook all time. I say “Bring on the BBQ weather”! I could use the break. All you ladies in Florida should count yourselves lucky in the fact that you can get a break any time of the year. Mention grilling outside and just watch your husband snap into action to impress with his skills.

Yes, you Floridians have it all over us up here in New England when it comes to BBQ weather. Right now I’m kicking myself for not hopping on a plane flying south before this next snowfall. Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s only one loaf of bread left on the store shelves and I must grab it while I can. Happy grilling!
