Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands
The Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands down at Viera is one of the most famous bird sanctuaries in all of Florida. They are easily accessible off of I95, and boast a variety of birds such as flamingos, cockatoos, African Grey Parrots along with some exotic species of Alligators as well. 4 manmade marshes and a lake are positioned in the centre of the pathways, which are truly a sight to behold. You can either walk, bike or drive through the wetland paths, all of which are well maintained by the authorities. Best of all, it’s completely free for tourists and Melbourne, Florida residents, although you may choose to donate to the preservation efforts.
Miami may have South City Beach, but Melbourne, Florida isn’t far behind either, thanks to the infamous Paradise beach point. Though not frequented by toned men with 6 pack abs, you can enjoy a relaxing day in the not too crowded beach. There is also the benefit of restaurants close by; almost every half mile, you’re guaranteed to run into a beach themed restaurant at the shoreline. If you’d like to take your Labrador retriever out for a stroll, there’s also a dog friendly beach down the road nearby where you can enjoy a relaxing walk with your best friend.
